Château
Orquevaux
A residency in the French countryside in 2021: the people who run it, the work I made there, and the solo show Impressions of Now at the end.
Ziggy Attias, founder of the residency
Ziggy built Château Orquevaux to bring back the shared life of the artist communities of the late 19th century: days of making, evenings of shared meals, nights of conversation, with artists from the US, Australia, Canada, Asia and Europe.
Also recorded at the château: Jeff Cote, from finance to becoming an artist ↗
WATCH THE CONVERSATION ↗Impressions of Now
Sumi ink on rice paper, laid out on the long table and hung on lines across the rooms, some with words brushed into them: Wake Up, Moon Reflecting Beach, Square Sun over Orquevaux. Some in gold, some in a deep blue. The residency ended in the solo show Impressions of Now, hung in the same rooms the work was made in. At the opening, the food was part of the work: golden plates I made, inspired by my mentor Jennifer English, two-time James Beard Award winner.
